Configuration requirements before installing ESET NOD32 Antivirus or ESET Smart Security in a domain network

To perform a remote installation of ESET NOD32 in a domain network, either the Windows Firewall must be disabled or File and Print sharing must be allowed. See the steps below for creating a Group Policy Object that will turn off the Windows firewall and allow File and Print sharing.

This procedure is designed for administrators installing to computers that are part of a Windows 2003 Active Directory (The operating system shown in the steps below is a Windows Server 2003 computer with SP1 installed).

  1. Download and install Microsoft Group Policy Management Console on the server (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads)
  2. Open the Microsoft Group Policy Management Console

  3. Create a new Group Policy object

  4. Enter the name of the object

  5. Edit the new object

  6. Open Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Network → Network Configuration → Windows Firewall → Standard Profile. Right-click on Protect all network connections properties, and from the context menu, click Properties.

NOTE: If you want to allow File and Print sharing, select Allow file and print sharing exception.
  7. Select Disabled.

  8. Create a link for the Group Policy Object (GPO) that will assure the use of the object in the chosen domain.

  9. The setting will be applied for workstations in the chosen domain.
