The Personal firewall is a tightly integrated feature of the ESET Smart Security solution and should not be permanently disabled.

Warning: Disabling the firewall is not recommended except for the purposes of diagnosing/troubleshooting system problems. To disable the Personal firewall only until the next system restart: in Standard mode click Setup → Temporarily disable Personal firewall or in Advanced mode click Setup → Personal firewall → Disable filtering: allow all traffic. You can also create a rule that allows all network traffic through the firewall.
If you need to disable the Personal firewall persistently (meaning it will be disabled until you re-enable it), you can do so, but it is not recommended. Use the following instructions with caution and re-enable the firewall as soon as possible:

NOTE: This procedure is only available on later builds of ESET Smart Security 4.0.
- Open the main program window by clicking the
icon in your Windows notification area or by clicking Start → All Programs → ESET → ESET Smart Security. - Press the F5 key to display the Advanced Setup window.
- From the Advanced Setup tree, click Personal firewall → System integration.
- From the drop-down menu, select Personal firewall is completely disabled.
- Click OK to confirm and OK again to close the Advanced Setup window. Restart your computer. After restart, your Personal firewall will be permanently disabled.

To re-enable your Personal firewall
- Follow steps 1 through 3 above.
- From the drop-down menu, select All features active.
- Click OK to confirm and OK again to close the Advanced Setup window. Restart your computer. After restart, your Personal firewall will be active again
